Frequently asked questions
The things people ask before buying. For field-by-field detail on the app itself, see the documentation.
What EdgeProof is
What is EdgeProof?+
EdgeProof is a TradingApp that runs inside TradeStation Desktop. It takes a strategy you already have and puts it through the validation a quant fund would demand before allocating capital: parameter search, candidate filtering, Monte Carlo resampling and real walk-forward testing on data the optimizer never saw.
Is it a website or a desktop app?+
A desktop app. It installs on your Windows PC and runs inside a TradeStation Workspace. This website is only where you buy it, download it and read the documentation.
Do I need TradeStation?+
Yes. EdgeProof uses TradeStation's optimizer, market data and EasyLanguage compiler. You need a working TradeStation installation with data for the markets you want to test.
Do I need to be a programmer?+
No, but one thing is needed: a strategy already written in EasyLanguage. From there EdgeProof generates the code to compile, sets up each test and collects the results, and produces the final live-trading strategy code. Compiling in TradeStation and attaching the finished strategy to a chart remain your own steps.
Does it place trades for me?+
No. EdgeProof produces the final strategy code. Attaching it to a chart and enabling automation in TradeStation is deliberately left as a manual step you take yourself.
Privacy and data
Does my data ever leave my machine?+
No. Your strategies, parameter ranges, optimization results, trades files and generated code are written to your local Working Folder and never uploaded. The software makes no network connections at all — not even to check your licence. Your licence is a short text token you paste in once; EdgeProof verifies it on your own computer, and sends nothing.
Do I need to be online to use it?+
Only to collect your licence token from your account page, and to download the software. The application itself never goes online — activation and every later check happen entirely on your own computer.
Buying, licensing and trials
What is the difference between Basic and Professional?+
Professional is the full pipeline, including the WFO configuration matrix, real walk-forward validation, the robustness view and the richer candidates analysis. Basic covers the streamlined path from settings through optimization and candidates to live-trading code, without walk-forward validation.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes — a 14-day trial with the full Pro feature set, one per person. No payment details are needed to start it.
Can I pay once instead of paying yearly?+
Yes. Both editions are sold either One-Time — pay once, yours permanently, with 12 months of updates included — or Yearly. There is no monthly plan. After the included 12 months, an optional update renewal costs $99/year for Basic and $260/year for Pro; the software you bought keeps working either way.
How many machines can I use one licence on?+
A licence is tied to your TradeStation Customer Number, not to a computer. You may install it on as many of your own machines as you like, and it covers every TradeStation account under that number.
What happens if I do not renew a Yearly licence?+
A Yearly licence carries an expiry date. You are warned well in advance, and if it lapses the software stops working until a valid licence is entered again. Work already saved to disk is unaffected. A One-Time licence never expires.
Can I get a refund?+
Yes — 14 days, money back, on your first purchase. See the Refund Policy for the details.
Who appears on my card statement?+
Paddle, our payment provider, alongside the EdgeProof name. Paddle handles payment, invoicing and any sales tax or VAT that applies where you are.
The free tools
Are the free tools really free?+
Yes. They are standalone TradingApps, each a single .eld import with its own user guide, and they cost nothing. They do not require an EdgeProof licence.
Do the free tools work without EdgeProof?+
Yes. Each one is self-contained. Some of them pair naturally with EdgeProof — the trades exporter produces files the Monte Carlo tool can read — but none of them depend on it.
Using it well
How many trades do I need before results mean anything?+
Enough that the numbers are not dominated by a handful of trades. How many that is depends on the trading style, the strategy and the instrument — a scalping strategy produces far more trades in a month than a swing strategy does in a year. As a general principle, the fewer the trades, the more any single one moves the result, and the more cautious the reading should be.
Why do the Monte Carlo numbers change between runs?+
It is a random resample of your trade sequence, so small run-to-run variation is expected. Read the distribution and its percentiles, not any single number.
When should I test a strategy again?+
EdgeProof does not monitor live strategies or send alerts — it is a testing tool you run when you choose to. Traders commonly re-run the pipeline after a material change in a strategy's behaviour, or after a period they consider long enough to matter. How long that is depends on the strategy and the market, and is a judgement for the trader.
