Trading Risk
Trading futures, and any leveraged instrument, involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. You could lose more than your initial investment. Only trade with capital you can afford to lose. Past results — whether from live trading, EdgeProof's backtests, walk-forward validation, or Monte Carlo simulation — are not necessarily indicative of future results.
Hypothetical Performance Disclosure
EdgeProof's backtesting, optimization, walk-forward validation, and Monte Carlo tools produce hypothetical, simulated performance results.
HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE MANY INHERENT LIMITATIONS. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFITS OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN. IN FACT, THERE ARE FREQUENTLY SHARP DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND THE ACTUAL RESULTS SUBSEQUENTLY ACHIEVED BY ANY PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM.
ONE OF THE LIMITATIONS OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS IS THAT THEY ARE GENERALLY PREPARED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. IN ADDITION, HYPOTHETICAL TRADING DOES NOT INVOLVE FINANCIAL RISK, AND NO HYPOTHETICAL TRADING RECORD CAN COMPLETELY ACCOUNT FOR THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL RISK IN ACTUAL TRADING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND LOSSES OR TO ADHERE TO A PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM IN SPITE OF TRADING LOSSES ARE MATERIAL POINTS WHICH CAN ALSO ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER FACTORS RELATED TO THE MARKETS IN GENERAL OR TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ANY SPECIFIC TRADING PROGRAM WHICH CANNOT BE FULLY ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE PREPARATION OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS, ALL OF WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS.
What This Means Specifically for EdgeProof's Metrics
- Slippage and commission figures used in Optimization, Walk-Forward, and Monte Carlo runs are estimates you configure — actual fill quality in live/simulated trading may differ, especially in fast markets or thin liquidity.
- Walk-forward "Pass" verdicts (Feasibility, Optimization, Validation) indicate a strategy cleared EdgeProof's specific statistical checks over the historical data tested — they are not a guarantee the strategy will be profitable going forward.
- Monte Carlo distributions reshuffle historical trade sequences to estimate a range of possible outcomes; they do not model new, previously-unseen market regimes, and are only as representative as the underlying trade sample.
- Data quality (gaps, corporate actions, contract-roll handling, historical data-vendor errors) is not independently verified by EdgeProof and can materially affect every metric downstream.
